SISMIC Project: A collaboration between Venair and Leitat

Two years ago we developed the SISMIC project, a project that allow Venair to create a totally innovative product not only for the pipe sector but also in the field of elastomers. The positive results of the project contributed in the optimization of the current manufacturing process that resulted in a substantial economic, productive and ecological impact on the company.

Silicone improvements to convey agressive fluids

The current products manufactured in silicone don’t show good behavior in contact with aggressive products, which generates the need, especially for sectors that demand higher performances (such as pharmaceutical, cosmetic or biotechnology …), to look for alternatives that provide improvements in the compatibility and reduction of the friction and the contact of the silicone with aggressive liquids.

Developement of new silicone formulations

Nowadays there are certain polymeric materials that can solve this incompatibility, however, their price is very high and are unable to achieve the mechanical properties of silicones. For this reason, two years ago we developed the SISMIC project, a project that allow Venair to create a totally innovative product not only for the pipe sector but also in the field of elastomers. The Positive results contributed to the optimization of the current manufacturing process that resulted in a substantial economic, productive and ecological impact on the company. The development of the New Silicones with Surface Properties improvements for Fluid Driving (SISMIC) it was possible thanks to the support of the Leitat technologic center and the innovative character of the Venair R+D department.

The project

SISMIC is part of the process of improving the innovation environment promoted by public policies (fourth strategic axis of RIS3CAT), which promote the efficient use of resources and stimulates the demand for products that respect the environment. The project was carried out thanks to the support line for the Industrial Research and Experimental Development Centers, within the framework of Local Projects in the operations co-financed by the Generalitat and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) within the framework of the FEDER Operational Program of Catalonia 2014-2020.
